500 miles for Mowat-Wilson syndrome: riders cycle from Montreal to New York to raise awareness

Montreal, QC – September 7, 2025 – This fall, Team Bella, a group of dedicated cyclists, will ride 500 miles in five days to raise awareness and funds for families affected by Mowat-Wilson syndrome (MWS), a rare genetic disorder impacting fewer than 1,000 individuals worldwide.

The Ride for MWS, founded by Rodrigo Meireles, father of Bella, a child living with MWS, will begin on September 7 in Montreal, Canada, and finish in Brewster, New York, on September 11. Riders will cover approximately 100 miles per day, with overnight stops in Burlington, VT; Queensbury, NY; and Hudson, NY.

“This ride gives us a chance to share the story of Mowat-Wilson syndrome with people who may have never heard of it,” said Meireles. “Every mile we ride helps fund research, education, and resources for families navigating this rare diagnosis.”

The Mowat-Wilson Syndrome Foundation (MWSF) supports families through advocacy, education, and research funding to improve quality of life and treatment options for those affected. All proceeds from the ride will directly support these initiatives.

Community members are encouraged to sponsor a rider, follow the team’s journey online, and cheer riders on at the start and finish locations. Live ride tracking will be available via Strava, and donations can be made here.
