RARE Skin

Our skin protects us, insulates us, regulates our temperature, manufactures vitamin d, keeping our bones and teeth healthy, generates antibacterial properties to aid the body’s own healing and distributes a massive network of nerves to power our sensory system. This super‑organ contains over a trillion cells and makes up approximately 16 percent of our body weight.

We’re delighted to dedicate our Summer 2026 issue of RARE Revolution Magazine, proudly supported by UCB to RARE Skin. Read the full issue here: https://bit.ly/RARE-Skin-2026

The global skincare market is valued at over $200 billion and growing, and Fortune Business Insights say that skincare accounts for around 40 percent of the entire cosmetic industry. Yet despite the obvious significance of our skin, beyond the cosmetic industry, investment into the health of our skin, in particular rare skin disorders, is woefully lacking. This edition, supported by UCB, aims to bring to the fore the challenges individuals face when this important protective barrier is compromised. We discuss the personal choices around wound care, stigma, advancements in surgical interventions and policy wins around vital medication. We also discuss the challenges of operating an advocacy group and gaining recognition within this sector and learn how patient led research might be the key to igniting greater interest in all things rare skin.
