To the ends of the earth – a journey for Addison’s disease awareness

Written by Martin Norman, Founder of Team Addison Global

It began with a spark. A vision. A determination to show the world that living with Addison’s disease is not the end—it’s the beginning of something powerful. Martin, a Swedish advocate and founder of Team Addison Global, set out to do the extraordinary: to travel to some of the most remote and extreme places on Earth, entirely self-funded, to raise global awareness of a rare disease that too often goes unnoticed.

Solo expedition across Greenland

His first major challenge was Greenland. Alone, he crossed icy landscapes and silent glaciers, testing not only his gear but his resilience. Every step required planning, every breath reminded him of his limits—and his strength. Through journal entries, photos, and blog posts, Martin shared his journey with the world—not as an adventurer, but as a voice for those living with Addison’s.

A glimpse of Svalbard—and what comes next

After a brief stay in Svalbard, where he familiarized himself with the Arctic terrain, Martin is now preparing for something even more ambitious: a boat expedition through the waters of Svalbard and onward to Antarctica. It’s a journey that demands meticulous preparation, medical vigilance, and mental endurance—but it carries a message that’s even greater.

Team Addison Global – advocacy in motion

Martin is not alone in spirit. He leads Team Addison Global, an initiative he founded to unite voices around the world living with Addison’s disease. The team’s mission is to raise awareness, share knowledge, and advocate for better care and understanding of this rare condition. Through storytelling, outreach, and bold expeditions, Team Addison Global aims to prove that limitations do not define us—they refine us.

Living with limits—but not being limited

Through articles, reports, and blog posts, Martin aims to show that life is possible—even with fatigue, even with obstacles—if we learn to live with our diagnosis and respect our boundaries. His mission is to inspire others with Addison’s disease, but also to draw attention from healthcare professionals, decision-makers, and the public. By traveling to the world’s most unique and challenging places, he hopes to spark better understanding, better care, and greater respect for those living with rare conditions.

No sponsors—just purpose

Despite the uniqueness and urgency of the project, Martin has chosen to fund the entire journey himself. Not because he didn’t try—but because very few sponsors are willing to help. It’s a tough truth, but also a driving force: to prove that commitment doesn’t always need external support—it can come from within, fuelled by purpose and passion.
